As festival fever prepares to overtake Leeds, and 50,000 screaming campers flood into the city... 42 The Calls hotel is opening its doors to weary music fans who long for a bit of luxury.

Why sleep in a muddy field after seeing the likes of Muse, Elbow, Deftones, Pulp, The Pigeon Detectives and Madness... when you could be relaxing in 4 Star luxury at one of the city's finest hotels?

Leeds Loves Food at 42 the Calls

From the 1st to 3rd of July 2011, foodies are taking over the city as the Leeds Loves Food Festival gets underway for the sixth year in a row.

This year will see the biggest and best festival yet, featuring around twenty events where you can taste, sample... and get up close and personal with some of the finest food and drink in the world.

You can taste food with Jean Christophe Novelli, be made a fabulous rum punch by the folks at Wray and Nephew, sample more real ales than you've ever seen in your life... and delve into a dazzling array of chocolate, barbeques and cocktails.

The centrepiece for this year's event is the Yorkshire Food and Drink Show... this massive spectacle is free of charge and will be held in Millennium Square throughout the weekend of the Festival. This epic showpiece is gathering up over 100 stallholders from all around the world... and unleashing them on Leeds in an explosion of culinary delights.

Here you will encounter all the latest and traditional cooking techniques, utensils and appliances... stalls dishing out an eclectic range of food from some of the world's leading chefs... and a mountain of fresh produce, fresh food and ingredients for you to get your hands on.

Yorkshire Day with 42 The Calls

Yorkshire Day... when the greatest county gets even better

There is far more to Yorkshire than whippets, flat caps and pints of mild - not that we've got anything against these things... in fact we're quite fond of them - but in reality, the Yorkshire of today is a hotbed of culture, exquisite scenery and thriving commerce.

Our county attracts millions of visitors a year to its moors, mountains, valleys, dales and pristine towns & cities...

Naturally, we think our county, the people, the attractions and the lifestyle is worth celebrating... that's why we're very pleased to be involved in this year's Yorkshire Day - taking place on the 1st of August 2011.

The date chosen is in recognition of the Battle of Minden - fought in 1759 - during which British troops (including the Yorkshire 51st Foot) plucked wild white roses (the symbol of Yorkshire) to wear en route to battle. The date also alludes to the anniversary of the emancipation of British slaves in 1834, for which Yorkshire MP William Wilberforce had strenuously campaigned.

Since its inception in 1975, Yorkshire Day has been a time to proudly champion the wonders of the county... and to entertain locals and visitors alike with a host of vibrant festivals, parties and explosions of culture.

One such festival is taking place at Harewood House (20 minutes away from Leeds) between 1st - 3rd August. Here you can enjoy a wide selection of excellent local cuisine, Yorkshire ales, games and fairground rides.

After the groundbreaking online release of their new album The Future is Medieval (where us fans got to create our own version of the LP by choosing our own tracklisting and artwork)...

The biggest band from Leeds is returning to where it all began to treat us to their newest sounds, along with a massive back catalogue of golden greats.

It's all taking place at Kirkstall Abbey on the 10th and 11th of September, and the best preserved Cistercian monastery in the country has already sold all the tickets in record time (some tickets are still floating about on various ticketing sites if you didn't get in early enough).

Leeds City Varieties is Back - and Bigger than Ever

The Grade II listed Victorian music hall has just received a £9 million makeover...

And scores of contemporary performers are vying to tread the boards of its historical stage.

The theatre, opened back in 1865, is one of only a few surviving theatres of the era... and has played host to such epic stars as Charlie Chaplin, Harry Houdini and Marie Lloyd.

Leeds City Varieties was also featured as the venue for the thirty year run of the BBC's The Good Old Days - featuring Leonard Sachs. Good Old Days music events are set to make a return to the venue this year - and will see a welcome influx of classic music hall to the city.

Grand Reopening

The famous theatre will reopen its doors on 18th September 2011 with a SOLD OUT Gala fundraising event featuring Ken Dodd - who has been one of the powerhouses behind this grand refurbishment.

Once the grand reopening is out of the way, a host of great and good talents will be taking to the stage over the coming months to provide the city of Leeds with a plethora of comedy, music and theatre.
